United States
Utah
Five well-known national parks (Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands) and a lot of public land between them. Elevation swings from hot canyon floors to cold plateaus in a single afternoon.
Arizona
The Grand Canyon dominates first-time plans. The rest of the state is desert, sky islands, and long connecting highways that run hotter than the map suggests.
Colorado
Altitude is the planning constraint. Rocky Mountain National Park is close to Denver and still not a casual same-morning idea from sea level.
Washington
Volcano meadows, a rainforest valley, and a working ferry system. Build weather backups; they will be used.
Oregon
A coast of headlands and state parks, with volcano country inland that this first edition only points toward.
Montana
Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road is the featured drive. Opening dates and vehicle rules change every season.
Wyoming
Grand Teton’s wall of peaks and Yellowstone’s geyser basins are the usual pair. They are close and still a two-park logistics problem.
North Carolina
The southern Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville as a reset town, and Smokies weather that is its own forecast.
Virginia
Shenandoah’s Skyline Drive feeds the north end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Overlook density is high; town services sit off the ridge.
Maine
Acadia’s granite ridges and Park Loop Road are the coastal-mountain combination most first-time visitors come for.
