United States
Oregon
Destination overview
Compass & Trails currently uses Oregon as the southbound finish of a Pacific Northwest week: Highway 101 towns, headlands, and tide-aware beach walks. Crater Lake, the Wallowas, and the Columbia Gorge deserve their own deep pages in later updates; they are not stubbed here as fake itineraries. If you only have Oregon days, pick coast or Cascades, not both at highway speed.
Best time to visit
Coast: September is often calmer than peak summer crowds. Winter is storm watching, not swimming.
Recommended trip durations
- 2–3 days of 101
- A week if you add Cascades (separate planning)
Best scenic viewpoints
- Signed state-park headlands
- Cape Perpetua area when you are that far south
Travel planning tips
- Tsunami zone awareness at coastal lodging.
- Beach fires and drone rules vary by park—read the unit you stop in.
- 101 is slower than I-5 by design.
Frequently asked questions
Is Cannon Beach required?
No. It is famous and parked-up. Nearby state parks can be the better walk if you arrive at midday.
