About Compass & Trails
Compass & Trails is an independent travel resource focused on hiking routes, scenic drives, detailed itineraries, and practical trip planning for people who prefer to move at their own pace.
The site is a small editorial project, not a newsroom and not a tour operator. There is no large staff to invent, no awards wall, and no claim of official partnership with parks or brands. When a page names a trail, a road, or a season, it is because that information helps someone pack, pace, or turn around.
Editorial philosophy
- Practical information over atmosphere copy.
- Clear planning: nights, hours, permits, and turnaround points.
- Responsible outdoor travel: designated trails, wildlife distance, Leave No Trace.
- Useful details over hype. We do not fabricate reviews, visitor counts, or credentials.
- Respect for public lands and for the towns that sit next to them.
How we work
Park rules, shuttle systems, and road openings change. We point to official sources—usually nps.gov pages—and we say so when a number is a typical range rather than a surveyed measurement. Corrections are welcome at fmj3419@gmail.com. See the editorial policy and disclaimer.
Find the trail. Take the long way. If you want a place to start, try hiking trails, road trips, or itineraries.
