Utah
Utah National Parks Road Trip
Utah’s ‘Mighty 5’—Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands—sit far enough apart that a week is a pace, not a luxury. The usual visitor pattern starts from Las Vegas into Zion, climbs to Bryce, crosses to Capitol Reef, then finishes in the Moab parks. Summer is harsh at lower elevations. Winter closes or ices some roads and shortens days. This trip is a driving framework. Pair it with the 5-day itinerary on this site for hour-by-hour hiking choices.

Food / rest. Springdale; park food options are limited.
Overnight. Springdale or Watchman Campground
Read the current shuttle and permit pages tonight, not in the parking lot.
Day 2 — Zion Canyon
Driving: Low car mileage if the shuttle is running

Evening. Pack the car. Tomorrow is a plateau climb.
Major stops. Zion Canyon shuttle stops
Optional hikes. Angels Landing / Scout Lookout or Watchman; Riverside Walk

Do not add Bryce tonight unless you left Zion at midday.
Day 3 — Bryce Canyon
Driving: About 2–2.5 hours from Zion’s east side
Morning. Drive US-89 / UT-12 to Bryce. Elevation gain means a temperature drop.
Afternoon. Rim Trail between Sunset and Sunrise Points, plus one descent into the hoodoos if knees allow (Navajo / Queen’s combination when open).
Evening. Sleep at Bryce or Tropic. It will be colder than Zion.
Major stops. Bryce Amphitheater viewpoints
Optional hikes. Navajo Loop / Queen’s Garden if conditions allow
Food / rest. Limited near the park; shop before you climb the plateau.
Overnight. Bryce Canyon City or park lodge/campground
Altitude is over 8,000 feet. Drink water.
Day 4 — Scenic Byway 12 to Capitol Reef
Driving: About 2.5–4 hours depending on photo stops

Evening. Torrey lodging. Fuel here.
Major stops. UT-12 overlooks; Fruita
Optional hikes. Hickman Bridge or a short Fruita walk
Food / rest. Torrey for dinner.

Capitol Reef is the quiet park on this loop. Let it be quiet.
Day 5 — Moab parks
Driving: About 2.5 hours to Moab, then short park drives
Morning. I-70 then US-191 to Moab. Timed entry for Arches may apply.
Afternoon. Windows Section or Delicate Arch if heat allows. Island in the Sky if Arches is at capacity.
Evening. Moab. This is a natural place to add nights.
Major stops. Arches; Canyonlands Island in the Sky
Optional hikes. Delicate Arch or Mesa Arch
Food / rest. Moab has the best resupply of the loop.
Overnight. Moab
