Zion National Park, Utah
Canyon Overlook Trail
A short east-side walk to a view of lower Zion Canyon. Uneven rock and drop-offs still deserve attention, especially at sunset.
Parking: Tiny lots. If they are full, continue to a legal pullout and change plans rather than walking in the road.
Permits: No permit. The figures here are typical ranges for planning, not surveyed values. Where the two disagree, the park’s own report wins.
Overview
Canyon Overlook sits just east of the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel. It is one of the few Zion viewpoints you can hike without boarding the canyon shuttle. The trail is short and not flat: uneven sandstone, a few shaded alcoves, and a final platform above Pine Creek Canyon. People underestimate it because the mileage is small. Evening light is excellent and the parking pockets are not. Go early or go with a backup plan.
Why Hike This Trail
